TXSDPA - CME Speaker Information

The TXSDPA invites qualified physician, PA, and NPs interested in speaking at a future CME meeting to submit our Speaker Inquiry Form.  Please note: submission of the form will alert our conference planning committee of your interest but does not immediately mean you will be selected as a speaker.  Once the educational curriculum needs have been assessed, the conference planning committee will reach out independently for any speaker invites.  Please do not send follow up inquiries.

Learn More About Being a CME Speaker:

All accredited medical education requires a strict process to evaluate for speaker bias and potential conflict of interest.  TXSDPA adheres to the ACCME guidelines for accreditation.  As a part of this process all speakers will be required to submit a disclosure statement that ensures transparency between the accrediting body, learners, and planning committee of any relationships a speaker may have with a commercial interest.  These relationships include consulting, speaking, advising, employment, and/or ownership of any company that has a financial interest in marketing, selling, or manufacturing of an OTC product, prescription product, diagnostic testing, or equipment involved in patient care.  These disclosures are irregardless of the topic for which the speaker is invited and must be disclosed.

Creating an Accredited Lecture:

When submitting decks or presentations to an accrediting agency, it's crucial to adhere to ACCME guidelines to avoid rejection. The common reasons why such materials are rejected typically involve certain prohibited practices. These may include:

  • Use of Brand Names: Using specific brand names of drugs, devices, or other products in the presentation is generally disallowed. Instead, it's recommended to use generic names or descriptors to refer to these items.
  • Images Showing Manufacturer Names: Images that include visible manufacturer names or logos present in the slide content should be avoided or modified to conceal such identifying information.
  • Tables and Images Provided by Manufacturers: Incorporating tables, images, or content directly sourced from drug or device manufacturers is typically not permitted. Presentations should rely on independent, unbiased information and visuals.

By following these guidelines and ensuring that the presentation content is free of brand names, manufacturer information, and materials provided by external entities, you can enhance the chances of your submission being approved by the accrediting agency. Remember to prioritize transparency, impartiality, and neutrality in presenting information to maintain compliance with ACCME standards.

Other Considerations:

  • References: You should use citations for information presented in your slide deck in order to demonstrate that the information in your lecture is coming from evidence based, peer reviewed literature that is both credible and accurate.
  • Images: You should have the appropriate permission for use of images in your slide deck.  This means that you have used either open source images from an educational resource such as DermNet.nz or have photos of your own for which you have signed consents from patients to use in an educational setting.  It is not appropriate or allowed to use images for which you do not have permissions.
